2/3/2024 0 Comments Ordinary world songMomentum built and the growing success saw Duran Duran’s self-titled album rise to priority scheduling. Ordinary World was allegedly leaked (or cleverly marketed) by the band’s stateside label, and a radio station in Florida seized on the recording in a big way, putting it on heavy rotation from the get-go. His masterful guitar riff anchored the song somewhere between all-out pop and the melodic rock direction the group followed across the other 12 tracks that would make up their new album, which also included the big hit Come Undone.Īs in all good stories, there’s a twist. Guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, who had been drafted in to replace Andy Taylor in 1986 and been elevated to a principal player for Duran Duran’s predecessor, Liberty, played a critical part in the song’s construction. Ordinary World emerged relatively early in sessions for the album, and its razor-sharp melodic hook gave the band confidence that they were on the right track. Le Bon’s assured vocal is among his best, and the track, picked as the obvious first single from the 1993 album billed Duran Duran (but largely referred to as “The Wedding Album”), was an immediate hit with critics. It’s one of those everyman songs with lyrics that anyone can identify with: the acknowledgement of what has been lost paired with a fragile confidence in the ability to step forward. Ordinary World was written by lead singer Simon Le Bon about his late friend David Miles and struck a chord with some of the political angst of that era. ![]() ![]() With dance and grunge music at the apex of cultural and commercial momentum, there seemed little space for a band now a decade into a career that had seen them transform from new-wave pioneers to New Romantic titans and then, latterly, musical magpies, rifling through different genres as they pleased. Duran Duran’s beloved ballad Ordinary World came at a critical crossroads for the group, as the fragmentation of the music scene at the end of the 80s and early 90s witnessed a brutal disregard for much that had gone before.

2/3/2024 0 Comments In sound mind rating![]() You’ll start the game in the basement of your apartment and soon come to realise that something has gone seriously wrong in your city. In Sound Mind doesn’t shy away from the weird, and it works well in the game. There’s also a talking cat, weird ink monsters, and noxious purple gas. Not so surprisingly, this does not go well for him. You play as Desmond, an amnesiac physiologist who is trying to piece together his own memories by exploring the literal psyches of his patients. Which is all very surprising after one of the weirdest, and edgiest opening lines in a video game. It’s not a constant barrage of adrenaline, but a slow build up of tension and unease. That feeling doesn’t always need to be fear either, and that’s what In Sound Mind manages to do so well. Getting these collectables requires you to make full use of the various items and abilities that you gain throughout your adventure and it is a nice surprise for them to be actually worth the effort.Psychological horror games are good in theory, but only work if they really make you feel something. Each character has a theme that can be unlocked by finding the relevant vinyl record in game and these offer a great reward for full exploration. I’ll freely admit to not being familiar with their previous work, but the music included here are fantastic. Sound design is also very strong and I’d definitely recommend playing through decent headphones, especially as one of the key advertising points of the game is the involvement of ‘internet icon’ The Living Tombstone for the soundtrack. These boss battles take place in a good range of locations that closely mirror the psychological issues of each patient. There is a lack of variety in the standard enemies, but this is less of a problem given the mixed nature of the game’s style and the excellent bosses. Still, the overall presentation here is impressive for an indie game, with some lovely lighting effects and good enemy design. They are greatly improved from the original demo, though, and the final boss battle makes good use of a floaty atmosphere to help ease the need for precision. These are most common in the narrative introductions to each level, so fortunately have little consequence for failure, but they do suffer from the usual lack of precision. ![]() One aspect that isn’t as pleasurable, however, is the inclusion of quite a lot of first person platforming sequences. So varied are these levels that I genuinely struggle to pick a favourite, with each having a particular atmosphere or mechanic that stands out. Each patient’s area has its own distinct style and look meaning that they all feel enjoyable to explore and are less bogged down by the repetition that often afflicts games in this genre. ![]() Narratively, the game develops pretty well, and the links between the various patients and your own situation is slowly revealed. The first true level makes great use of a mirror shard as you have to use it to reveal hidden secrets or disguised items whilst a later one gives you a radio control switch that opens up some innovative electricity-based puzzles. Some require you to utilise vents and short cuts to move around the various levels, whilst others take the form of finding keys to unlock doors, but a few really rise above the norm. Fixing a broken elevator opens up the top floor of the building and reveals you to be a practicing therapist who must look into what has happened to his recent patients and find out how their plight is related to his own. Once you’ve got your bearings and solved the first few environmental puzzles, the narrative really picks up. So far so predictable, but things soon take a turn for the more interesting. In Sound Mind starts off in very familiar territory as you find yourself trapped in a dark building with no idea of how you got there. In short, In Sound Mind is a really pleasant surprise after the likes of Those Who Remain and The Inner Friend. There is an enjoyable mix of environmental headscratchers and explosive combat to be found here, all wrapped up in some impressively polished presentation and a memorable soundtrack. In Sound Mind breaks the mould here by offering a well measured balance of both of these styles. I’ve played a huge number of first person horror games of vastly varying quality and they generally occupy one of two extreme positions: either spooky jump-scare puzzlers or full of high-octane gunplay. 2/3/2024 0 Comments Macspice rose![]() When you look at the swatches you can see that they’re all pretty neutral shades that you can wear with a lot of different shades of nude, pinky nude, mauve and even pink lipstick shades. The two companies are combining their tech to create what Luminar founder and CEO Austin Russell described as a “holistic autonomous vehicle stack” made for production vehicles. The partnership, which is between Luminar and Volvo’s self-driving software subsidiary Zenseact, builds upon an existing relationship with Volvo. The company announced in February that it would work with Volvo Cars to develop and eventually sell to other automakers an automated driving system for highways. Luminar, which burst onto the autonomous vehicle scene in April 2017 after operating for years in secrecy, became a publicly traded company in late 2020. Airbus said its Urban Air Mobility project will also benefit from this technology as a step toward autonomous flight. The incremental integration of these technologies onto the helicopter Flightlab has begun ahead of a complete demonstration in 2023. ![]() Airbus said that when combined, the system will be able to manage navigation and route preparation, automatic take-off and landing, as well as following a predefined flight path. These technologies, which include lidar and other sensors coupled with software for obstacle detection, fly-by-wire for enhanced auto-pilot and a touchscreen and head-worn display for inflight monitoring and control, aim to reduce helicopter pilot workload and increase safety. The company said Monday it will introduce a number of new features to its helicopter Flightlab through a project code-named Vertex. Increasing helicopter safety is one of Airbus’ missions. The companies said the sensor also has the potential to “substantially improve the safety of existing aircraft applications.” Automakers have also begun to view lidar as an important sensor to be used to expand the capabilities and safety of advanced driver assistance systems in new cars, trucks and SUVs available to consumers.Īirbus is interested in how Luminar’s lidar and perception stack can be used to automatically detect obstacles, a key step toward autonomous operation of aircraft such as urban air mobility vehicles. Lidar, which measures distance using laser light to generate a highly accurate 3D map of the world, is considered by most in the autonomous vehicle industry critical to commercial deployment. Startups at the speed of light: Lidar CEOs put their industry in perspective We look forward to accelerating our shared vision to define the future of flying.” “We believe that automation and safety enhancements will transform how we move across all modes of transport as we take our technology from roads to the skies. “We’re able to directly re-apply what we’ve accomplished for the automotive industry into aviation, an established nearly $1 trillion industry,” Luminar founder and CEO Austin Russell said in a statement Monday. ![]() Luminar and Airbus will develop and test how lidar can be used to enhance sensing, perception and system-level capabilities to ultimately enable safe, autonomous flight, the companies said. The effort will be folded into Airbus Flightlab, an ecosystem that offers access to flight test platforms across Airbus’ business lines, including commercial aircraft, helicopters, defense and space. Instead, the partnership is with Airbus’ UpNext subsidiary, which is focused on developing and eventually applying new technological breakthroughs to aviation. Unlike Luminar’s deal with Daimler, Mobileye and Volvo this is not a production contract, although the aim is that it will lead to one. The partnership won’t immediately bring lidar into commercial aircraft. Until now, these have exclusively focused on applying its light detection and ranging radar to automated vehicles on the ground - not in the skies. The collaboration with the French aerospace giant, which was announced Monday morning, marks the latest in a string of partnership announcements between Luminar and companies like Daimler, Volvo and Mobileye. Luminar Technologies is expanding its lidar business beyond automotive and into aviation through a partnership with Airbus. 2/3/2024 0 Comments Macos big sur wallpaper 4k![]()
